About
Hi! I am Christine Black.
As a kid, I learned to think of gardens as magical places. My grandparents’ garden was home to a mythical and mischievous white rabbit who I spent hours trying to catch with my brothers. I was sure that fairies called my aunt’s herb garden home. But as an adult, I learned that gardens can be even more magical when we plant for nature.
Bringing Nature Home, by Doug Tallamy, taught me how native plants prop up the entire ecosystem through their relationship with native insects. Understanding that changed the way I garden forever. So much of our land has been converted to lawn, and the decline in birds and insects reflects those lost habitats. It is time we restore as much as we can back to nature.
My husband John was dedicated to teaching others about the vital role native plants play in supporting our ecosystems. To carry on his legacy I decided to start Grow Native Gardens, a native plant garden design business, helping homeowners and businesses restore biodiversity to their landscapes one yard at a time.
